Lady - Emma Wildenborg
My name is Emma Wildenborg. I am 8 1⁄2 years old and live in Tri-cities, Washington. I just
completed second grade and love reading, gymnastics, basketball, swimming, and playing with my sister. I have been raising rabbits since I was four years old, and this will be my fourth WSRBA royalty competion. My sister and I live on a “mini farm” that includes rabbits, chickens, sheep, dogs, and cats. I love all of my animals and enjoy sharing them with others. Last year I was crowned with the 2022 ARBA Lady title. It was the most exciting thing that has ever happened to me. I have worked so hard at learning more about rabbits and enjoy learning from those around me. I also was part of the winning ARBA national quiz bowl team. Every time I go to a rabbit show, I am able to work with other breeders, as well as judges to continue to grow in my project. I look forward to representing Washington State again at the 2023 ARBA nationals this fall.
Prince - Aidan McCurdy
Hello, my name is Aidan McCurdy. I am from Arlington, Washington and I am 11 years old. I have been raising cavies for almost two years. I started showing last year when I joined 4-H. I have participated in 4-H shows, at my local community, county, state fairs, and open shows. I just participated in my first ACBA specialty show in California. I entered youth contests for the first time at the 2023 ACBA Specialty show since it was just for cavies. I really liked it and decided to try other youth contests in ARBA.
I currently have 7 of the 13 recognized breeds of cavies. I am working on breeding American Cal pattern cavies in a few different colors. I hope to be able to produce cavies with great color and markings. When I go to shows I get a chance to see other colors, breeds and varieties. I also get to talk to other breeders about their program so I can learn how to improve my own.
When I’m not doing something cavy related, I like to play with my friends, ride atv’s, and play video
games. I don’t play on any sports teams, but I enjoy playing basketball and soccer. I might try Lacrosse
next fall.
I love cavies and plan on breeding and showing for a long time!
Princess - Bethany Menge
My name is Bethany Menge and I live with my three siblings and parents. I have two older brothers Micah and Isaiah, and I have one younger sister named Grace. I have been showing rabbits
through Greensleeves 4-H for five years. I breed Rex rabbits, and am currently trying to breed to get lynx with my breeding trio, whose names are Luna, Joe, and Oprah. This is my second time going to the Washington State Rabbit Breeders Association Convention. Last year I was only 3rd place out of three competitors, so I am really happy I was able to win this title. I have never been to the American Rabbit Breeders Association nationals, and hope to go soon. This year I plan to go to the Evergreen State fair, and hopefully the Washington State Fair. I am also planning to auction a rabbit this year for the Evergreen Youth Livestock Sale. I love 4-H and just showing rabbits in general. My 4-H showmanship rabbit’s name is Otter. I live on a farm in Duvall, Washington. On my farm I currently have rabbits, chickens, turkeys, sheep, goats, pigs, dogs, and cats. I am in 5th grade and go to Hillside Academy in Duvall. Rabbits is not my only 4-H project, I am also a part of sewing, creative arts, gardening, and photography. Next year I am going to be homeschooled and do a national level speech and debate program called STOA. I love to sing and write, and my dream is to one day be an author. I am also a part of my brother’s D&D group. Lots of people have helped me along the way including all my 4-H friends, my parents; Chris and Melanie Menge, Josh and Maria Benjamin, Stacy Dekoekoek, Beth Kovich, Jodi Davis, Lily Felure, Ket Davis, Mara Lautzenheizer, Maddy Benjamin, and Sawyer Bowhay.
Duke - Micah Menge
My name is Mcah Menge. I am homeschooled, in eighth grade, and despite a variety of hobbies, including things like a national level speech and debate league called Stoa, gaming, both board/card
games and video games, Dungeons and Dragons, Reading and 4-H, I am still showing rabbits and this is my fifth year doing so, this is also my fifth year breeding rex rabbits, at Cherry Hill Farm in Duvall Washington with my parents, Chris Menge and Melanie Menge, my younger sister Bethany Menge also breeds and shows the rabbits, my youngest sister Grace Menge will be starting up in 4-H and showing rabbits next year, my older brother Isaiah Menge doesn’t show rabbits but he does help on the farm. My family got their first rabbit in September 2018, joining the Greensleeves 4-H club a short while after, at 4-H shows and just learning about rabbits in that first year is where I developed my love for rabbits and started showing them for the first time. Overtime I got more and more involved and this year I decided to compete at the Washington State Rabbits Breeders Association Convention for the first time, though, if you are reading this I think I did all right for a first try. Even though I have been showing and breeding rex’s for a while I am still trying to expand into breeding rex tri colors though they have been hard to find. I have participated at evergreen state fair my last four years and two of those years I have done an auction animal for the evergreen youth livestock auction. Some people that have really helped me in my project would be my parents Chris and Melanie Menge, who have drove me to rabbit shows, 4-H meetings, fairs I’ve went to such as Evergreen State Fair, Silvana Community Fair, and Washington State Fair, along with all that they have paid most expenses such as feed, cages, the animals themselves, most equipment like toe nail trimmers, lab coats, showmanship carpet, even the building my animals live in and much much more, Maria Benjamin who has led the Greensleeves rabbit project since I started and gave me my showmanship rabbit that I still use to this day, and many more.
Duchess - Baylee Voss
Hi, my name is Baylee Voss and this is my third year doing Washington state convention. I have been showing and breeding rabbits for about six years now. I raise Mini lops, French Lops, Satins, Califorians, and Teddy cavies. I am 14 years old and love all my animals.I think Mini Lops are fun and they come in so many different colors and they all have very different personalities. My mini lop progress has improved so much over the years. I am so happy about that because it was one of my biggest goals. I am in 8th grade and go to public school in deer park Washington. I love to tell my friends and teachers about my weekends at rabbit and cavy shows. When I get overly stressed out about school or life, the rabbit barn is the best place to go. They calm me down and help me refocus. My cavies have the most funniest, crazy personalities. They always squeak and make noises, and the babies are so cute. I have also wanted to get a smaller breed to expand my knowledge of breeds, types, and colors, which will all help me with breed ID and royalty in general. Rabbits have helped me become who I am today, they have given me so much self confidence, being able to speak out loud in public. Which has been so helpful in so many ways, for class presentations or interviews when I get
older, and even just having confidence to talk to anyone. I am in a 4-H group called Big City 4-H Club. With being in a 4-H club I don’t just learn about the rabbits and cavies, I learn about important life skills like sewing, wood working, painting, drawing. I like that I have more than one option so I’m not stuck with one hobby. My main hobby is definitely rabbits and cavies. They are always on my mind and that’s all I can ever think about. I am so honored to be getting this award and I have worked so hard for it.
King - Hunter Gildersleeve
My name is Hunter Gildersleeve and this is my second year competing in Royalty. I have been raising rabbits for 7 years. I raise Florida Whites, New Zealands and a Checkered Giant and I participate in 4-H and FFA. I am a sophmore in highschool and I’m the only child for my mother and have two half brothers. I have been working on breeding my Floridas with my mom. This year My 4h friend and I bred our New Zealands and have kits for our new projects. I am excited to see what is in store for my rabbit adventures next. I have really enjoyed all the friends I have made along the way at all the shows and events.
Queen - Mara Lautzenhiser
Hello! I’m Mara Lautzenhiser. If you happen to be reading this, then I’m your 2023 Washington State Rabbit Breeders Association Queen. I am so honored as there are a lot of great youth competing. I am in the 9th grade (I’m 15) and go to Glacier Peak High School in Snohomish, Washington. I raise Jersey Woolies and am attempting to get further into the rabbit hobby this year by breeding more and attempting to start up my line of Agouti’s. I currently have 11 Jersey Woolies. I’ve been in 4-H for 7 years and am a part of the Emerald City Rabbits and Cavies Club and Greensleeves 4-H club. Since last year’s State Convention, I have been having a blast travelling around to many different shows and getting the chance to have amazing learning experiences at each one. You may have even met me at one. Besides my county shows, I also participated in the Stevenson show twice, Royal Rabbits show, Washington State Rabbit Breeders Association, and the American Rabbit Breeders Association Nationals. I am currently in the FFA program at Glacier Peak High school and it is so much fun! I am doing Vet Science and rabbits. I had so much fun showing in Rabbit FFA at the Mt. Si FFA show and am looking forward to showing rabbits at the Evergreen State Fair this year. Outside of the rabbit project I enjoy anime/manga, reading, gaming, art and singing. I would like to give a shout out to all of the people who have helped me along the way: my Emerald City Rabbit Club friends, my Greensleeves club friends, my Snohomish County 4H Rabbit Program friends, my King County friends, my mom; Jenny Lautzenhiser, Kody Friedrich, Maria and Josh Benjamin, Nicole Petersen, Wanda Weber, Charlotte Parry, Kelsi Ramos, Susan Browne, Stacy Dekoekoek, Tiffany McCoy, Laura Valleries, Emma Ward, Bella Stouffer, Caroline Olmstead, Liz Nichols, Jan Mccollough and Ashley Mahaffey. These people have been a big help to me in the rabbit program and have helped me grow within the rabbit project.
